Everyone,

It has been a pleasure serving as chair of this wonderful group. I have enjoyed my time working to help and support the Java community in New Orleans. I have taken a new job in Atlanta. I know you all will continue to support the group and help it grow.

That being said Joey Moreland has taken over my spot as Co-Chair of the group. I know I have left the group in capable hands.

I thank everyone for there support and hope you all give that same support to Joey.

Remember the Java Road Trip arrives in New Orleans on the 10th of July. The next meeting of the group will be on the 15th

James Ward is a Technical Evangelist for Flex at Adobe and Adobe’s JCP representative to JSR 286, 299, and 301. Much like his love for climbing mountains he enjoys programming because it provides endless new discoveries, elegant workarounds, summits and valleys. His adventures in climbing have taken him many places. Likewise, technology has brought him many adventures, including: Pascal and Assembly back in the early 90’s; Perl, HTML, and JavaScript in the mid 90’s; then Java and many of it’s frameworks beginning in the late 90’s. Today he primarily uses Flex to build beautiful front-ends for Java based back-ends. Prior to Adobe, James built a rich marketing and customer service portal for Pillar Data Systems.

Review: Beginning Groovy and Grails

This book is an excellent way to get started with grails development. This book provides a solid foundation and excellent coverage of the grails framework.
The book starts out with a 3 chapter overview of the groovy language. After that starts the Grails Sections, Which are very fluid working though one application (Collab-todo) from start to finish. Showing you how to use features such as plugins, ajax frameworks, security and web services. This book will really get you going with grails fast.

Mr. Evans leads Skyway Software’s global teams of enablement and support professionals and is responsible for ensuring customers and partners gain maximum value from using Skyway Visual Perspectives. His teams also focus on educating customers and partners about collaborative software delivery and model-driven application development and deployment. Title: An Architect’s View of Domain Specific Language (DSL) for Enterprise Applications & Services

Talk description: An architecture walkthrough of an extensible, model based DSL built on top of Eclipse projects – EMF, GMF, WST, and JDT.

Robert Cooper is the Head of Engineering for Teledini in Atlanta, GA. He has been doing production work with GWT for the last two years and is the author of GWT in Practice, and a contributor to the forthcoming Unlocking Android. He is also a contributor to several open source projects including ROME, GWT-Maven and Gwittir.
